The mission of the WRF is to increase the capacity of volunteer non-profit organizations to develop and achieve self-reliance. The WRF supports the volunteer sector by providing skill development and training opportunities, preserving, promoting and recognizing the value of volunteerism and by providing financial assistance to non-profit organizations for projects that are social and community service oriented.

Types of Grants:
The quarterly grant program provides grants to registered, human-service, non-profit organizations to develop and enhance their organizational capacity. The maximum grant is $50,000 and an organization's community fundraising must equal the grant amount requested. Application deadlines are January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 and an organization can apply for a grant once every three years.

The international development program provides grants to non-government organizations to improve the health and economic conditions for the desperately poor in developing countries. The program can match or supplement the donations an organization receives from the citizens of Alberta to a maximum of $25,000. An organization can apply annually for a grant.
